1987 Iroc
1987 Iroc
I'm looking at buying an 87 Iroc with a rebuilt L98 and an LT1 6sp tranny. I will be putting the engine/tranny into my 1992 RS convertible. I will be using the fuel pump/fuel sending unit from the 87 and the chassis fuel lines as well and the air filter assembly.
Is it better to use the wiring harness from the 87 or use the 92 harness and repin?
Do i need to swap over the fan as well?
Also, would it be a better idea to swap my 305 TBI/700r into the 87 iroc when I'm done and sell it or would it be better to just part the car out? Just trying to get some money back from purchasing the donor car
Thanks,

Re: 1987 Iroc
So I bought the 87 Iroc Saturday and started to the process of removing my engine in my 92 camaro. What I'm looking to do is to remove the Engine/tranny at the same time. Does anyone know how many wiring harness connectors I will need to disconnect to be able to pull out the engine/tranny together as I will be pulling the engine wiring harness still connected. Right now I have everything unplugged from the passenger side of the car that was connected to anything on the body of the car. Right now the harness goes behind the distributor down toward the bottom of the engine. Do I need to removed the wiring harness from the drivers side of my car as well?
Would I need to remove the transmission cooler lines if I'm taking them both out at the same time?

Re: 1987 Iroc

The ground wires are bolted to the back of the head(s). Several connectors at/near the distributor. One connector on the driver's side of trans. Oil pressure for fuel pump @ the oil filter.
My $.02 says pull the engine+trans without the harness, THEN remove the harness.
Don't forget to swap throttle (and cruise control) cables. TBI != TPI.
