Oil pan options
I'm putting in a 406 small block in a 1987 IROC this summer, and i was wondering what oil pans choices are available. I know the front crossmember between the lower control arms limits the size oil pan to stock volume. On the other hand, i can't seem to find a stock volume oil pan that will work with a 3.75" stroke. Any suggestions? Any and all help is always appreciated.

Re: Oil pan options
The Kmember does not really limit you that much.
I run a summit 7 qt. kicked out sump pan in my 1988 camaro. My dad has the same pan on his 1982 firebird.
Both has stock K members.
I posted pictures on another thread, take a look at my post on this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...se-hooker.html

Re: Oil pan options
Back when I had a SBC in my car, I ran a 7qt Moroso pan with a stock k-member with no clearance issues.
Pan volume is in the sump. There should be very little oil at the front of the pan so a deeper pan at the front is not required. It only needs to be deep enough to clear the crank and rods.

Re: Oil pan options
That's great to know, thanks guys. Any part numbers on those oil pans? I'd like to look at the prices

Re: Oil pan options
The pan I used $79.95 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3502 and of course you have to buy/install the longer oil pump pickup on your oil pump
Which I used the summit brand $17.97 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3502p
So $98 total

Re: Oil pan options
FWIW, on ebay there are deep pans available for either 2 piece or one piece rear mains with the pickup included. I have one on my '86 and the problem I had was the starter was rubbing on the bigger pan. Got a small gear reduction starter from the same seller for cheep and they both work great! No leak's and the starter whirr's my engine over like it's a low compresion engine, and I'm at 12.5-1.
