Apparently now I am doing a motor swap....uh
I recently traded into a 1991 Pontiac Firebird with the wimpy 305 tbi installed. I planned on eventually swapping the motor to a 350 tbi or maybe something bigger. I had planned on taking my time in scrounging up good deals on parts and building a motor slowly, while driving around in the 305 for a while. I picked up the car last week and it ran fine other than a trsnsmission slip. I drove it 3 hrs home without any issues. 2 days later a hell of a rod knock appeared apparently out of nowhere... i havent been giving the car hell and hhave a feeling he did a little magic to cover it up when i picked the car up. Long story short the day the knock appeared it chucked the rod out of the oil pan. I trailered it and got 5 miles before the uhaul car hauler blew out a tire. I think this car may be cursed but i am going to have to put a new motor in it if i dont want to have a total loss. I will be collecting parts slowly and updating this thread as i progress in the build. Wish me luck

Thanks man. I will update it as much as i can. I work a kind of crazy schedule and have 3 kids so it definitely won't be a thread that gets updated every day but i will keep it updated as the build progresses.

I am curious if anyone has ever built an H.O. 305 And gotten good results? I am pretty limited on my hobby budget, especially since my wife is a little upset about the motor blowing within a week of getting the car. She actually was trying to get me to scrap it when it threw the rod haha! Ive talked her out of scrapping it but i will have to go easy on the large purchases for the car for a little while. I really want to go with as inexpensive a build as possible but still produce decent power.

What's gonna be your engine budget? A good cheaper way to get some power in your car is to pick up a 350 vortec engine from a '96-01 full size truck/van/suv and swap in.
You can pick them up from people parting out wrecked trucks for $400-800 with 80K to 150K miles on the engines. 255 HP stock, add headers, better intake, maybe a cam swap and your at 325 HP
