I am fixing up my dads camaro.

Hey guys my dad gave me his 1984 camaro z28, which has not been started in 6 years and I am planning in giving a good fixing but I don't want to put a lot of money since I am in high school, what engines would you'll recommend that will have a good hp output bit costs around 1500 please help thanks.

Goodwrench 350 at around $1600 is about the cheapest and a bit of an upgrade from the 305.

Thanks, I have looked at that one but I wasn't sure but yea I am going to pursue that one, what transmission would you recommended also any new advise would be appreciated because I don't know much about what to do thanks again

You're not going to be able to change the engine out for $1500, tow-in to drive-out, and have something that will actually run and drive reliably, without a whole bunch of pure dumb luck.

Why change the engine in the first place? Those don't go bad from sitting around. Fuel systems, brakes, and rubber parts generally, DO. I'd suggest not being so concerned about "engine" (unless in fact it failed catastrophically) and instead put your $1500 toward "car".
