TPI and a 400 SBC

I have just scratched the surface of a project. Or shall we call it a box of parts.

I need a some guidance on the potential of a build.

Here is a list of parts I have at my disposal.

A 1972 400 SBC virgin engine. Of the 4 bolt variety. So, from what I am reading, it is good to about 5500 rpms without major bottom end work.

A set of Vortec heads. That need valves.

And the reason I am here. My next door neighbor has a TPI set up he got at an estate sale. I have not had a chance to really look at it yet, but it has an Accel Gen 6 DFI unit with Accel runners.

So, with a decent cam and the Vortec heads, a 400 SBC will make a nice little stump puller that is good for about 450 foot pounds of torque around 4000 rpms and 400 ponies at 5000.

So.. From ye' old postings on the web it says that a "stock" tpi system poops out around 4200 rpm.

What can anyone tell me about the Accel stuff? Or is it a TB flow issue? Will 58mm TB take it to 5000 rpms?

Re: TPI and a 400 SBC

Stock tpi wont bolt to vortec heads. Need a vortec base

Stock will be done by 4000 rpm on a 400, maybe even sooner especially with those small heads.
