305 tbi to 350 tbi simple question
My 305 tbi has low oil pressure and I'm pretty sure has a blown head gasket, so I'm just pulling it out and dropping in a 350 tbi. I just want to know if I'm correct that the 350 tbi will bolt right in without any modifications to the computer or anything like that. Is. there anything trouble I might run into doing this?
Also I'm not going it myself as I don't have an engine lift and its probably more of a project than I can handle, so any ideas on what a shop will charge for just the swap? I heard it can be done for under a grand?

Re: 305 tbi to 350 tbi simple question
well it will drop and bolt in but you need a 350
spark control module
Knock sensor
350 fuel injectors.
If you do not install the correct parts it will run super lean and spark control will be all out of sorts (timing)
it will run like dog ****.

If I buy a junk yard 350 with tbi already setup will I need to modify it at all for my car? And can I get all of the parts I need from the donor car?

What do you mean by "spark control module (inside distributor)"? Ignition module, in the distributor?

The thing you need isn't inside the distributor; it's the ESC module. A box located on the firewall nearby.
The stuff inside the dist is the same for 305 & 350.
The knock sensor will already be in the donor motor. Look at the pass side block coolant drain and make sure.
You also need the "chip" out of the ECM for 350.
Yes you can get all that stuff off of the same vehicle the motor you get is coming out of. Any truck, Caprice, Roadmaster, etc. w 350 TBI is an acceptable donor.
No idea what "shop" would charge. Never in a thousand years would I consider having an antique car as a hobby, but pay somebody else to do the dirt-simple stuff like that. That's just crazy talk, or worse. Go to your local rental yard and rent a cherry-picker: instead of $1000s, it'll cost you about $30 a day plus some fluids and whatever might-as-wells you run across. Should take no more than a weekend if you're slow and stupid like me; you're smarter and quicker though, you can probably do it all in one day.
