LT1 vs carb 350....looking for opinions
Just picked myself up a 1988 Camaro. It was an original v6 car but has had a 350 carbureted (supposedly a 4 bolt main) engine put into it. Trans is a 700R4. I also have an LT1 out of a 94 Z28 that has roughly 100k miles on the engine but was running when it came out of its original car. The engine in the car has a ton of question marks, not sure what's wrong with it but the seller claimed the oil plug fell out and it had a blown head gasket! Seriously have no idea what could end up being wrong with it, but it's coming out. If it ends up being good, I'll go through the engine and get it right and put it back in. My question is, (im probably beating a dead horse here), should I go with the LT1, or the carbureted 350? Is the LT1 swap worth it? I have every component that goes with the LT1 and I don't plan on using A/C. I know the swap is fairly easy, just some wiring involved. I wanna make decent horsepower, maybe 400 at the crank. Want it to be a decent little cruiser. Also for what it's worth I have the 4L60E out of the 94 also.

Also this isn't my first rodeo with an LT1, had a 95 Camaro with an LT1 that went 12.6. So I'm familiar with the engine family. I know all about how the opti can cause problems and all that fun stuff!

do it. the LT1 is an upgrade over almost any old school small block, and you have it... the wiring isn't that hard as long as you know the GM color coding scheme (orange wires are keyed positive, etc) and what you can cut out of the harness. you should be able to get the harness down to a few wires that need to be hooked up to the car.
