Little bit of history on my build, bought an 87 sport coupe when I was 16 and drove it all throughout high school. Once I graduated I started saving up and swapped in a fresh carb'd 350 and T5. Drove the car for about 6 months when the tranny blew up. I was in a rough spot in life and didn't really have the drive to work on it so it has sat for about a year while I was in school. Finally got a little motivation to fix her and picked up another T5 to swap in. Swapped it, bled the hydraulics and the motor fired up just fine. However, when I put the car in gear nothing happens when I let the clutch out. Only gear that does anything is reverse and it moves forward. I'm going into my senior year of college and don't really have the time or money to start putting into it right now. I just feel bad that the car is 2 hours away sitting in front of my moms house. I guess I'm asking if I should get rid of it or not.

No, you shouldn't get rid of it.

When you're done with college and (hopefully) get a job, save your nickels and dimes and do a T56 and rear end swap.

Don't give up on it yet.

You've already done a lot of the work, and gotten the hang of working on that car. The transmission issue sounds fixable if you feel like pulling it apart and learning how to do a rebuild. And if not, you've already swapped in one transmission, so do like five7kid says and save up for a T56 instead.

I still regret getting rid of my first Camaro after high school, so maybe I'm a little biased. Hope everything works out!

I'm also in the "keep it" group. If you ask any gear head what their one regret is when it comes to cars, almost every one of them will say that it was selling their first car. I had an 89 Daytona with Ttops and wish I hadn't sold it. Even though it wasn't anything special. Its at the top of a VERY short list of cars I'd be willing to sell my Camaro to pay for.

Should have mentioned this in my last post. My dad still has his first car, a 67 Corvette vert. It's sat parked in his garage for the last 30 years. He parked it after the fuel tank started leaking, and he got laid off from his job. Now that he is retired, he has started to restore it and my brother and I have been helping him. It's a fun project for us, and something we all enjoy. He thought about selling it a few times over the years but me, my brother, and my mom always talked him out of it. We know how much he likes that car. I don't get the impression you plan to leave it parked that long, but sometimes life happens. And when you do get it back on the road, you'll enjoy it that much more.
