Stock looking 305 to 383 TPI swap
Hey guys, I've had my 91 for awhile (it was actually my first car) and as I'm sure you've all guessed, I've been getting smoked on the street for awhile
. I love the fact that my car is all original, but I really want more power, specifically a lot of torque. HP is nice, but I'm really a low RPM guy. I've been looking and learning on these forums for probably four or so years now, and have decided on how I want to increase my car's power output. Long story short, I want to stick a 383 long block (hopefully pushing around 400-450 HP and 450-500 TQ) underneath my TPI system. My main goal with this swap will be to keep it looking 99% stock, except for some bright A$$ orange 383 stroker valve covers. I've heard rumors of our Tuned Port Injection systems being able to put out around 800-900 CFM of fuel flow, which should be more than enough for anything I would make for this car. I've built engines before, so the building won't really be an issue for me, I would just like to know what you guys think about how much of my stock stuff I can make work with my plan.

Re: Stock looking 305 to 383 TPI swap
Just found this link to an article about "extrude honing" the stock TPI setup vs buying aftermarket ones, http://xtremecarzone.com.au/index.php?showtopic=386, and it seems like if I build the engine properly I can get even more power than I originally asked for with a stock looking setup!
-------------------Edit------------------------
From what I've seen, extrude honing for the lower intake and plenum combo will cost right around $700, if anyone has any experience with this I would greatly appreciate you input

Re: Stock looking 305 to 383 TPI swap
Stock tpi on a 383 wont do 400 hp without doing a similar build as that article. Would need a big agressive cam and heads, treating it like a stock eliminator or restricted intake race car to get some hp out of it.
My suggestion would be aftermarket big tube runners and base, but gotta find them for sale

Re: Stock looking 305 to 383 TPI swap
This article was pretty close to the build I was aiming to do anyways, my only question is what combustion chamber should I use to get a 383 to 10:1 comp, and is there a cast iron version that would be good for that or should I just buy aluminum heads? I have a 350 thats 10.5:1 with machined 305 heads, and I think those are 58cc? Not sure, but 500 ft lbs would be amazing.
