305 to 383 91 RS
305 to 383 91 RS
I have a few question about swapping a 383 into a 91 RS. Firstly will it be a direct swap, it is carb'd, will the mounts need to be moved to fit the engine? Will the transmission bolt up from the 305? Do I need a different ECM? I'm really wanting to go 383 because I have one I can obtain. I just want to know everything I need to make this a turn key swap. Thanks.

They're both small block Chevy motors. (assuming of course, that the 383 in question, is a Chevy 350 block with a 3.75" stroke crank in it, as opposed to, say, a Xler motor from the 60s)
No.
Yes. Flex plate or flywheel might not however. That will depend on the details of the motor, which since we don't know, can't tell you in advance.

Thank you, I thought the 383 would be bigger than the 350 in some demensions, causing clearance issues. Is there anything other than the previous questions you have answered that I need to know about the 383 in an RS? I'm restoring this car, because I basically grew up in it but I want something with a little more "bang" than the 305 and 350. I am a tad bit of a noob when it comes to American vehicles, I'm familiar with honda's lol.
