this will be my first swap, so I have a few questions.
I have a very clean 83 sport coupe with a carbed v6 and a th200c trans. Runs great honestly, but I just picked up a 91 RS with a carbed 305 and a 700r4 for dirt cheap because it owes alot on tags and won't up shift, otherwise the car is in great condition.
not worried about passing smog.
1)is there a basic kit for the carbed v6 to carbed v8 swap?
2)what else besides the front springs and fuel pump need to be swapped? Power steering?
3)is there ANY way to bolt that th200c to the 305??
i know shame on me but, I need to get around town while I work on the 700r4:driving

Everything. No really, the list of parts that are different between a carbed 2.8 V6 83 Camaro and an EFI 305 V8 91 Camaro, is so obscenely long that it's really not even polite to ask.Originally Posted by Cheddar Swiss

Do a search, it's been covered before. The short answer is that it's much more involved than most people ever realize.

I found alot of info on v8 swaps, nothing that is the exact same as mine, but people say it's not too hard. I imagine if I was running a straight carb it would eliminate alot of hassle.Originally Posted by Drew

Without the brain it would just be engine trans cooling system fuel system and power steering rite?
I'm not asking what the difference between the two are, just what's the simplest way of going about it.

Simplest? Sell the V6 and pay the late fees on the RS.
There's nothing simple about the swap you're considering. People say it's not too hard, but how many people do you see around here with successfully swapped cars, that aren't facing one problem after another... How many abandoned V8 swapped cars do you see on Craigslist (go look if you want, but it's A LOT).
Edit: Lemme put it this way... It's about as much work as an LS swap, but you're considering putting all that time, labor, and a lot of money into a 170hp 305.

Okay, that sets the table. Now the specifics:Originally Posted by Cheddar Swiss

Yes, a donor car. In your case, a '91 RS.Originally Posted by Cheddar Swiss

No. But I have one that will (about 45k miles on a rebuild, worked great when pulled, free where it sits).Originally Posted by Cheddar Swiss

Assuming the '91 is in decent shape, I agree with Drew. Sell the '83 and do what needs to be done on the '91. Sounds like it at least needs a tranny rebuild.i know shame on me but, I need to get around town while I work on the 700r4:driving
