L31 with TPI - anyone done it?

Sorry - never mind. Found a great thread here

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...31-r-swap.html

Thinking this is a good combo for a stock-everything 383 stroker using extrude honed out/improved TPI induction and better breathing and exhaling.

Super Chevy got 450 HP and 585 lb-ft of torque with this setup.

Anyone done this?

Here's the thing. Both the Vortec heads and the TPI are great for torque under the curve, neither are inherently "good" for overall flow. As someone who recently put a heavily ported (although not extrude honed) TPI on a 383....."we" do so for the nostalgia. Not because it's the best. We all have "our reasons" for doing what we do, but, in general I don't think an ideal set up.

...and I haven't read that article in awhile, but I NEVER trust ANYTHING performance related, that include specific brands, that I read in a magazine. You can almost guarantee there's something shady somewhere.

I'd keep the vortec/TPI combo for a 350.

....on a 383, (i'd) go Stealth Ram, and a bigger/better head. (I went RHS).

I swear every time I search for something I'm thinking of, I get a post from Tootie. We have the same car. I swear there is some kind of cosmic connection here.

Did you ever pull the trigger on a L31? I have my transmission out now for a rebuild, was thinking of dropping in an L31 4-bolt with headers and using the TPI vortec base. I am trying to decide if $3500 is a realistic budget for the swap. I would do all labor myself.
