i got 2 grand and a 86 iroc w/ toasted tpi 305
the 305 tpi in my 86 iroc has gone to crap. i love this car and need the best advice on a repacement motor. i dont want to spend more than 2k on a motor. so..LB9,LO5,LM1 ??? does anybody know the horsepower ratings on these engines?
i do live in california and they are tuff on smog. but i dont think the smog guy will know its a 350.

Bad idea. 350 HO 330 hp = Vortec heads. Add $400 to the price of the engine for a TPI base that fits the heads. You'll also need to plumb exhaust up to the intake to allow the EGR valve to work.
Your '86 TPI base will have straight 90 degree intake to head bolts, so the LO5 won't be a direct "bolt-in" (but then, nothing's a bolt-in). Just elongate the center two intake bolt holes on each side so the bolts will fit. That engine would be a much better choice than the HO, though. You should figure on porting the plenum & base to help feed the larger cubes (even helps a 305), and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to give the additional cubes the additional fuel they'll need (larger injectors could also be done, but your budget doesn't really support them).
