383 smog
Hi I just moved to Sacramento area from Michigan. I have a 91 Camaro with a 383 that is carbed and no emissions equipment. Would I be better off finding an older chassis to put the engine in that keep it carbed or would going tpi and out the emission equipment on? Thanks in advance.

If you don't have all the original stuff, you'd do better to just turn the car into cash, ship the cash, and buy another car once you're there.
There's DAMN FEW chassis left in the world that are old enough not to require smog testing, yet ready enough to daily-drive that giga$$$$ in work isn't needed. And if you find one you'll pay A HEFTY PREMIUM for it.
I was in better shape than that when I moved out there; I had put all the smog stuff off of my original motor in a box and kept it, so when I got there, it wasn't too far from being back to OE-looking again.
An other choice would be to look for a newer motor to swap into it. Some LS variant out of a car (can't be from a truck) would be my choice in such a situation.

Re: 383 smog
Does it have a CARB EO #?
Yes = no effect
No = no pass
Regardless, that's about the least of your problems. Junkyard distributors are a dime a dozen. Abuncha that other stuff... runners, plenum, TB, base, sensors, harness, exh manifolds, AIR system, cat, ... worry about those things FIRST.
I think, at this point, the best thing you can do is to just get rid of that car. There are NO EXCUSES, there are no BUT... BUT... BUTT... just get rid of that car. From your description it is WAY TOO FAR from the requirements; it is HOPELESS. Either buy an UNMOLESTED FACTORY BONE STOCK UNTOUCHED car and drive it out there, or just buy one when you get there. Or, if you simply MUST keep the car, buy a *California* *CAR* LS series engine & trans to swap into it.
