v6 swap for 350 info
v6 swap for 350 info
Ok guys, now that I got your opinion on a motor, what kind of things will I need to change? My boss told me that i might have to reinforce my front end, and then other people tell me that all I have to do is change springs if they are fatigued. I'm not saying I don't trust them, but I want a better opinion.
Thanks
Thanks
-fuel line
-re-bend a brake line
-radiator
-transmission
-front springs(not required, but the added weight may effect handling)
-motor mounts
-must have a complete 350 with all accesories and brackets because V6 ones will not work.
-if going from fuel injection to carburetor you need an AFPR or remove intank electric pump.
search the archrives this topic has been beat to death, you should even find a post by me asking the question....I know you can find the answers in the archrives...

My V6 car just had new springs put in all around before the block cracked. I didn't change the springs when I did the V8 swap because I figured new V6 springs were as good as old V8 springs.
Wrong.
It rode terrible, handled even worse, scrubbed the tires in the slightest turn. I put the old V8 springs in, all of those things were now okay.
I also found the V8 had an extra bolt-on brace between the frame rail and front crossmember on the passenger side, and a heavier anti-sway bar.
The engine mounts that bolt to the front crossmember are the same between V6 & V8, just bolted into different holes. The part that bolts to the engine are different between V6 & V8, though. Since you have to completely remove the mounts from the crossmember, you might as well put new ones on (I didn't, wish I would have).
I used the V6 fuel line, just added some 3/8" steel brake line across the front of the crossmember to get it over to the passenger side where the V8 mechanical pump is located (just used rubber for the 5/16" return line). I probably should have used the line out of the V8 donor, but the car doesn't seem to suffer any for it. In some ways, it might be better because it keeps the fuel line in a cooler path.

You should consider changing the front springs and adding sub-frame connectors. For 11 years my car set perfect. I put the 350 in and now it lower on the front... Looks odd. I am also putting sub-frame connectors for better handling...
