Iroc LQ4-4l80e turbo build combo
Im swaping the lq4 and 4l80e out of a 2001 2500 hd into my 89 Irocz. My plan for my car is a street/strip race car with single turbo and building the drivetrain for 1000hp and run 800ish to have a margin of safety. I want to bore the engine out slightly and use forged rods and pistons with stock crank and a ford 9". Keeping this in mind what do you guys think is my best route to accomplish this? Which engine mounts would be best? solids? Also who makes quality forged pistons and rods that are not too pricey? I know ls7 uses forged titanium rods, does anyone know if they fit in my lq4? I already have a 4l80e cross member for a thirdgen from P.A. racing.

Spend some time reading about various builds on LS1 tech. You'll start to see what the guys are using. I would first set a budget for your build. It can get out of hand quickly when properly building a bottom end to handle 1000hp. You're likely to be in the $5k to $7k range for a properly build shortblock for that boost level. All of the other parts of the swap (mounts, exhaust, chassis,) are not different than any other 3rd gen LS swap. Read the stickies and you'll get a good idea of what it will take to swap into your car.
