I may attempt the LT1 swap in the near future

Yesterday, my 95 Z28 M6 was rear ended by an unlicensed/uninsured driver and i believe it to be totaled. Both quarters buckled, the bumper was pushed into rear tire/can't drive it, the area above the gas tank in my hatch is crumpled, exhaust on the ground. The positive is no one was hurt. I can't seem to get pics to upload. Anyways, towed it home while i wait for insurance process. Hopefully they won't undervalue me too much and I plan to keep the car one way or another as I'm thinking this may be an opportunity to swap the engine, possibly the 6 speed to into my 3rd gen/85 Z28. I have a lot of aftermarket rear suspension parts that could swap over to replace the tired OEM ones on the 3rd gen and could end up with a fun ride that moves a lot faster? There are many things that i could sell/barter swap w/a buddy who also has 3rd & 4th gen camaros etc. I would likely pick up a beater 4th gen to keep me rolling as the swap will take a while due to work and family time etc. I hate driving the Portland Oregon roads as we have terrible pot holes, construction everywhere, but worse are the drivers in "Felony Flatts". I'm thinking, based on all the threads I've read that having a donor car would line me up for an easier time? Anyways, just sharing as I figured you all can understand my pain and or thoughts right now as I deal with the aftermath. Oh I was on my to see my son for his 30th B-day yesterday and today is my b-day LOL........regards

Lot of the support is in LS swaps but the LT can be done pretty easily since you have the donor car. I did a ls1/t56 swap into my originally automatic car, I wouldn't recommend going from auto to manual unless its absolutely something you want as it complicates the swap getting the clutch dialed in and wiring modifications.

And yes if it buckled the rear 1/4s to the point they touch your tires and the floor pan it will be totaled. Depending on the miles a 95 will probably be valued around 5-6k by the insurance co, but they will try to sell it back to you for 2k. Go ahead and look at how much a similar one is selling for so you are prepared to debate them.

It will take you much longer to do it than you realize so a daily driver will be needed. Other option is find a v6 4th gen and swap everything from your LT1 car into it.

you're spot on, I would likely give my friend or barter the t-56 and stay auto. Already did the home work and they range from an over priced (my opinion) 56k mile one at 16K down to around 5K miles with anywhere from 80 to 150 k miles and a few in between. I'm ready for the game, but at the end of the day I'll make the best of it and. I've done the v6 to v8 and it after the fact I realized it would. have been better for me to just find the V8. I won't start a swap until I got the daily covered. The thing is, I prefer my 3rd gen in a every which way.....thanks for your advice, except the speed/torque factor

Re: I may attempt the LT1 swap in the near future

Update: my 95 z28 was valued at a little over 7500. When you factor the 1000 deductible and the buy back of 1441, I will end up with 5600. I am actually very pleased. I will trade the t-56 for a running hard top 93z28, swap the LT1 into the 3rd gen eventually, swap the suspension into the 93 along with my door panels seats carpet and my buddy will use the sheet metal to patch his 4th gen. It's looking like a good glass of lemonade. I have Pemco insurance they are based out of the Seattle area and cover Pacific Northwest. Thanks
