350 block FAQ's
350 block FAQ's
Yeah, pretty soon, I was wanting to build me a new engine for my car. I want to build a stroker engine, so I am looking for a nice 350 donor. Preferably new. But how much would a 4 bolt main 350 block cost? And just for kicks, do you know where I could find a 6-bolt main IRON block
and maybe some prices? Also, one more question. How much do 383 cranks run? Thanks ya'll!

is there such thing as a 6-bolt block? i don't think so...i think that the only 6-bolter is the LS-1.
i think that new 350 blocks are around 500-600 bucks, totaly bare. check out summit, i have seen them there before. it wasn't a GM block though i don't think.
also, check out www.paceparts.com. look them up in their GM Performance Parts catalog.

6 bolts on the caps are really needed only on the aluminum caps due to their size (for strength) and the blocks web design (anti- work-hardening). A standard 4 bolt style for below 450 hp, go to a spade layout for more hp (sustain hp). I wouldn't spend the time or money there. Put your money on a good centered block and the machining. Unless you realy need the strength I'd spend it else were. I seen complete machined and clearanced blocks around 700 bucks (street). It is very important to start out with a good block. Just to give you an ideal, last year I spent 3500 per block, I run three engine combinations in my late model. Don't let anyone say Small blocks Chevy's are cheap..."great" parts are always expensive.
In my searching I found this low cost site, they advertise all the proper machines for their machining (short of a serte for head work)

Theres lots of HP that can be lost in blocks....it takes a good machinist and tools to make sure it dosen't.
