Impala 62 with a 305TPI and PG
Hello!
i have a problem with my 62 impala who is converted from a 350 chevy to a 305 TPI. When i put the car in either R or D the car just stalls on me, but shen i Get her to drive she drives like a dream. Also when I first get it in gear it seems like it wants to drive off right away and won’t stand still, so I have to hold the brakes hard to get it to stand still. I have adjusted the TPS correctly and cleaned the IAC. I’m going to try to change oil on the gearbox and clean the gear oil cooler.

What year is this TPI system? Does the wiring harness have a park/neutral switch? How are you adjusting the TPS and what did you set the volts at? Did you attempt a minimum idle adjustment after cleaning the IAC? Timing set correct? No vacuum leaks? Any SES light? Functioning VSS? OE/aftermarket cam? Not enough info...

Under the HOW TO tab at the top of the page you will find the IAC adjustment procedure.
The SES light is the yellow ENGINE symbol that will appear on the dash. You may not have one and therefor will have to scan the ecm to see if you have codes. You are probably going to have to do the same for the VSS. To set the timing you have to disconnect the EST wire. If you have HEI dizzy you will just set it like normal. Because of the swap, you may not have all the systems, sensors that was all part of the original TPI system.

it’s a adapted efi so would be on the shifter. Might post the ecm service number . For example the painless 60103 part number 1227730 ecm service directions say
6.1.5 If you are NOT using a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or a Park/Neutral Indicator Switch then you will connect these two wires together (orn/blk and blk/wht). When this is done, the computer will think the vehicle is in park. Engine RPM may be limited by the computer!
