3.6 LGX engine swap?

Considering putting the 3.6 LGX from a 2017 3.6 camaro into my 1990 rs daily driver. Has anyone done this?

I considered this as well. It sounds to me like it could be done, it is just harder to do than any of the comparable v8s you could choose from. And at the end of the day, you’re going to have a car with less power, less aftermarket support, and will be less valuable to anyone wanting a modern-swapped car.

you’ll likely run into weirdness with mounting, air intake, and especially exhaust. Not to mention the restrictions on tunnel space in the car, since you’ll HAVE to use a comparably modern transmission, or come up with an adapter kit if you want it auto. Probably easier if you’re going manual.

At the end of the day, you’ve gotta ask yourself what your goals are. Is this something you’re willing to put your wallet on the line to figure out? Is this something you REALLY want to do, and keep around indefinitely? Would a V8 swap meet the need? Would a modified stock V6 meet the need?

A 4.8 LS swap would be a better low cost alternative….lots of Chevy 2nd trucks had them and 300 plus hp and similar torque is OE output. Like Codyman said if you sell it a V8 is preferable to a V6….

Well the thing is, I also have the entire dash from a 2017 SS that I was thinking about swapping in there, and I was thinking using the LGX would make it easier to hook up, but I have very little idea of how the dash display actually works in conjunction

if it is a 2017 Camaro SS, that would have come with an LT1, not an LGX. If you wanted it to work with no programming necessary, you’d the need the same engine/trans combo, if not the same exact engine and trans from that exact car. These all communicate over a CANBUS signal, and I am unfamiliar with hacking around it.

that said, a 2017 dash is a whole ‘nother can of worms. Again, it’s all possible, just completely unproven. The time of the people who will be needed to help is expensive, but it can be bought. Cheaper if you know somebody, but I sure don’t.

Re: 3.6 LGX engine swap?

If you can make it work than you are more skilled than I. But, being several generations removed from the third gen platform I would surmise everything is going to require fabrication install the dash as well as the motor. That sounds like a year plus project if you work full time and have family.

Good luck with whatever route you choose!

Do Not do it.

The 3.6L Engine Family has the Highest amount of Money spent on Warranty Repairs and Recalls than any other GM (Suzuki) Engine to date.
