383 swap tech
383 swap tech
Hello fellow 3rd Gent’s, I have a 92 camaro z28 with a 305 tpi in it, i’m looking to swap a 383 short block into it in the near future. I’m just banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how it’s going to work with the electronics. Does it hook up to the ecu in the car ? what do i do with all the computer junk hooked up to the motor now ? i’m just a brother asking for some help from yall !!

You can try and run it with the current TPI setup or get a stand alone EFI system. If you get a stand alone like Holley/fast/Edelbrock you would remove the current ecm and harness associated and put in the new system. This is what I did for my pro flo xt setup. It was super easy, you just need to plan it out and take your time. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who have done it w their tpi setups. To me a more modern system was the better move but I don't know much about tpi ecm tuning.

You can put the TPI on the 383. Depending on the heads you use, might take a small amount of modification. All the sen-sores and whatnot will plop right into their same places. You'd need larger injectors and a 350 knock sen-sore. Maybe not the "best" choice, but certainly one of the available ones. An aftermarket intake system and ECM is arguably "better", for sure.

Re: 383 swap tech
I have a zz430 clone in my TA w a pro flo xt setup. They have intakes for old school sbc heads and slightly less old school vortec heads. It's a simple setup, the hardest part is figuring out the fuel pump situation. You may need to do something w your stock fuel pump. I initially used an inline pump because mine didn't have one in the tank. It may be as simple as hooking up a new ecm to the current pump but I doubt it will flow enough for a 383. Aeromotive makes a pump/tank/sender combo that I'm putting in this weekend.
in the end putting in standalone more modern stuff has worked much better than trying to work w the old stuff.
