Looking to order a stroker kit for my 1988 GTA, was wondering if mine was a 1 piece or 2? it is a 350 TPI car. I read 86 was the last year for 2 piece, I just wanted to make sure before I placed an order to JEGS.
Yes the hood is not original and the spoiler is for a Formula, a tree almost crushed it a few years back and its all I could get for a repaint, since I was daily driving it
It moved starting in the late 70s, according to the chassis and the exhaust system that went with it, as they went through their periodic updates. By the early 80s, all cars were equipped with blocks that moved it to the pass side.
The 2-pc RMS with pass side dipstick was then produced from that time until the 1-pc RMS was introduced, in 1986. ALL of our cars, as well as all the other chassis, had 2-pc RMS and pass side dipsticks up until that time. My 83 L69 (201 block) had the pass side dipstick with 2-pc RMS for example. 86 was the changeover year to the 1-pc RMS. I don't know of any 86 or later vehicles that came with the older blocks. Which is not necessarily the same as saying "there weren't any"; only, AFAIK, it was pretty much a hard cutoff. 85-back, 2-pc; 86-up, 1-pc.
Your 88 would have come with the 1-pc. No guarantee that the motor that's in it NOW, is that; only, that's what it would have COME WITH. 2 rather different things.
