Mystery engine in my 92 Z!
Hey guys!
Well the shop took me through a tour today of my engine and how it met its demise.
Turns out the block is a 350 but it is NOT the block out of a 92 Camaro! For one they said it is "not rollerised" and it's supposed to be. They said the heads were different and didn't match each other, and one of htem was cracked! My crank was also scored big time.
Long story short? I need to get a full rebuild etc.
Just wondering... how much hp was I losing do you think by not being roller cam? What are benefits of roller cam? They mentioned also that computer probably wasn't working properly with the engine, but they can't verify that yet...
I was losing by 2-3 carlengths to stock mustang 5.0's !

Cant really say how much power you are losing unless you know the cam specs and the motor is obviously not stock so its hard to tell how much your losing their as well. Depending on the year of the mustang, it would probably be a close race but you should have a slight edge. But you still cant determine how much power you lost because alot depends on driver ability.
If you only want a stock 350 for your z you might be better off finding a used L98 rather than rebuilding that motor.

I agree with the above post.
I'll just add some words to live by: NEVER rebuild. ALWAYS upgrade!
So you don't know what cam you've got in there? Go buy the one you want. Flat tappet cams are dirt cheap. Get one that will work well with the rest of your setup.
You got mismatched heads? Go buy a set of performance heads, preferably in aluminum and drop 50lbs off the nose of the car!
