2000 LS1 in my 91 Z
I have a 91 Z that I received from my dad last month. It has 84,000 original miles, and is totally stock other than exhaust and ignition mods. I am in the process of buying a 2000 LS1 and 4L60-E tranny off a local junk yard for $3000. I think I can handle the motor and tranny swap, but my question is, how can I make the speedo work with the 4L60-E? I think its electronic, and mine is gear driven from the 700R4, right? Has anyone on here attempted this yet? or will I be the first...? Any insight on the electronic and/or wiring aspect of this would be greatly appreciated.....Love this site by the way...

You won't be the first, more like third or fourth putting an LS1 into a thirdgen. You're speedo is already electronic, but you might need some type of translator or something to translate what the 4l60-e is saying. Also, have fun fabbing motor mounts for the LS1.

Dude, go for it. If you feel you can get the LS1 in the engine bay of a 3rd gen DO IT! I'm sure it can be done, maybe with some difficulty but our 3rd gens are DINOSAURS compared to the new 4th gen LS1 cars (And I dare anyone to challenge me on this).
I'd throw out my ZZ4TPI in a heartbeat for the ability to swap a superior LS1 in. Sorry 3rdgen TPI diehards, time marches on, so do engines.

I used an autometer electric speedo in my lt1/4l60e swap.
I actually did the whole dash 5"tach,speedo, 2 1/16" oil pressure, water temp, volt, fuel level, fuel pressure. It costed almost 700 dollars to finish the dash, but it looks cool

Well it sounds like you want to do a total custom setup so I say dump the whole stock guage cluster and fab a new one!! I know when I finally do swap in a LS1 / T56 I'm gonna toss my guage cluster in the trash. I plan to have a new guage cluster plate machined out oif billet aluminum and fill it with autometer guages. Think of the upsides ... not only can you skip the whole cable/electric 'how to convert it' issue, you can get the 200mph speedo and really see how fast that ls1 can take you!! (cuz you know you'll easily peg the 145 mph speedo with a ls1)
