heater hose routing for lt1 swap
Hey guys-
As you know any motor swap is not complete until everything works. Since I got my motor running a few weeks ago I have been working on making all of the accesories work like they used to.
I have almost everything working. My question is . Does anyone know which accesory hoses on the water pump send and receive coolant. My lt1 has an oil cooler on it so I have one fitting on the drivers side(which I think sends coolant) and two fittings on the passengers side . I need to know for sure which of these send and receive coolant so I can get my heater and my oil cooler working. I have the helms manual for my Iroc but not for the 94 lt1 car. I think that it probably would have the info I need.
Thanks for the help.
Kory

and Here I come to your rescue !!! My *** is it hard or what to do a normal cooling system these days ??? what a major pita . It's not hard once you know it !, the top is a oulet , the one at the bottom is the inlet . there's also a steam hose from the back of your heads that goes all the way to the radiotor, near the rad cap. and don't forget about the trottle body cooling system , if you want to install it . also for the tranny, it's easy, there's no coolant that goes there so don't even try that ok ?. anyway to top line on the tranny goes with the top opening on your rad, and bottom goes to bottem opening at the rad, if your not sure own you installed it there's an easy trick. start the car, wait a while, touch one of the line, if it's hot, it's the top one, if it's just warm well you know ...
I seriously think this is one of the worst cooling system I've worked on. it's clearly

Also, I forgot something, Let's say your engine hasn't run in a long time and you are always getting air in the radiator and you think the coolant color is not normal, check your head gaskets , I blew a 300$ rad before knowing !
My engine had both gaskets shot.

Matt-
The bottom is the inlet, Does that go for the drivers side lower fitting which the oil cooler is connected to? Thats the only one that I'm not sure about.
Thanks ,
Kory

The 4th gen f-body coolant line that goes to the DS tank can be capped off on the water pump, as it is on the y-body pump.
also for the tranny, it's easy, there's no coolant that goes there so don't even try that ok ?
Kory, where does your LT1 have an oil cooler? You should be able to pattern it after a 3rd gen cooler, i.e. if the heater return hose on a 3rd gen runs the oil cooler, use the heater return hose on your car too..
