ID'ing a block
ID'ing a block
Hi Guys,
I just picked up another 1986 T/A for cheap and I want to ID the motor in the car. It's a 350 and the VIN says the car came with a 305. I think it may be a GM crate motor, but I want to be sure which it is. Any help would be great. Thanks!

There should be a ID number on the block behind the drivers side cyl head you could look up.Find a parts guide at bookstore, library, junkyard.

If its a crate motor, there shouldnt be many, if any, numbers on the left deck boss. If there is a whole slew of numbers there then chances are it was a factory production engine and *not* a crate motor. Those numbers represent the assigned VIN of the car/truck to which it was installed when new.
