Welcome aboard.

I'd agree, the 4 banger in the Camaro was a sad, sad situation. Normally, I'd recommend to those without a V8 that they sell the car and buy a factory V8 car. But, that's typically to people with a V6, which at least can get out of its own way. Not sure what a 4-cyl car would be worth (probably more for parts than whole), so that may not even be an option.

How attached are you to this car? What kind of shape is it in (other than the engine, of course)? Does it have any sentimental value?

The reason I ask is that you're looking at basically the same work as a V6 to V8 swap. There's plenty of posts about that topic. The best way to go about it is to get a factory V8 donor car (one that's been wrecked, typically) and swap all the V8-specific stuff from it to your car. It's a lot of work, especially if you have emissions concerns that require all of the factory equipment. It's also best to have the same brand (Camaro) and close to the same year as your car for the donor.

Hope that helps. Look over the V6 to V8 posts, come on back with any other questions.
