95 or 97 LT1 ?
95 or 97 LT1 ?
Hey Fellaz, I've got a chance to pick up an 95 complete LT1 out of a wrecked Camaro Z28 with 83,xxx miles for $ 1,650 or an 97 LT1 out of a wrecked SS Camaro with 45,xxx miles for $1700.I know this sounds like a no brainer, but the 97 has some wire harness and fuel line damage from being wrecked. Is it gonna be cost effective to fix the 97 ? The 95 is local and the 97 will cost $ 175 to have it shipped to me...................Thanks

i'm also LT1 shopping right now, and if presented with the same scenario that you have, I would without hesitation take the newer and lower mileage engine (plus it's an SS!). I know that the mileage doesn't necessarily dictate how well it was maintained, but to me, even with the minor damage, I'd pay a little more for 40k less miles, 2 less years, and a few more ponies.

The thing oyu need to think about though is that the '95 is OBD1 and the '97 is OBD2. that does alot as far as modability goes. I would get the '95 just for ease of improvement as far as the computer goes.
oh yeah, unless they raced the '95 like every time they got in the car, 80k miles does just about nothing to these engines. I wouldnt begin to worry about rebuild questions until it had about 100k miles on it.
