Knock sensor
Knock sensor
ok, i was browsing the archives about knock sensors and the answer im looking for is still kind of fuzzy. Im swaping in a 350 out of (i think) a 72 vette(the guy said it was a 2 bolt main, but found a 4 bolt that i can have, so im guessing its from a differant car(that would be a differant block right?)???). Just thinking about the year of the block, no ECM comes into mind. and when i think no ECM, i think no knock sensor. Is this right? if so, how do i go about hooking up a knock sensor to that block? or can i just leave it off and still not get a code? thanks!

This is one of those questions for which the answer just doesn't seem like it should be so easy, given all they've changed over the years, especially to accommodate emissions equipment.
The knock sensor screws into the water jacket drain port on the passenger side of the block. That hole has been there unchanged on SBC's since 1955.
Unscrew the pipe plug, screw in the knock sensor. You're done.
