New engine

My dads friend is selling a 350 bored to 360, ported heads, new rockers, springs, rods, valves, and a cam with .475 lift and 230/230 dur. He says he dynoed it at "a little over 400 horses". My question is would you guys say buy his engine ready to go for $3200 or just go ahead and invest in my set up listed in my signature. If any one knows a way to squeze some more horses with different cam or intake manifold please say b/c those are ones i am not sure on yet like i am thinkin about LPE 219/219 instead of LT4 Hot Cam. so any suggestions would help......hold clearence does not matter for intake manifold. thanx guys.

400HP????

Maybe.....probably not.

I dont like buying my performance engines used...

I say keep that $ and have one built yourself, to match your car & your intentions.

This is what i would do. I am young & i have made several mistakes already.

Trust me, take the advice i am giving you!

Well I see in your future setup you have AFR aluminum heads. Tihes things are great heads but a little pricey too. I think like 1200 dollars. So you might wanna put that into perspective also.

well the engine only has like 100 miles on it, so its just kind of broken in. He also has the print out of the dyno test, but i have not seen it yet. He is one of my dads good friends too so i doubt he would rip me off.The only reason i kinda dont want to do my own set up is that i always beak some thing or do some thin to mess every time i work on it. Ever tho it might be aliitle over priced it will save me alot of researching, effort and time. He also is probably going to help me install it, so dunno.....i am still debating this.

Well. I don't like calling anyone a liar but here's why i dont think it will dyno anywhere near 400HP....

Duration, 230/230 @ .475" lift. This is a flat-tappet cam with not much lift. Also you say it has stock ported heads. Maybe if the were Camel Humps or equivelents then it may be around the 350 HP range. Still though, i would definetly get those dyno sheets.

Also consider that peak HP means nothing if it doesnt stay up anywhere else in the curve know what i mean?
