after i get my 5.7 TPI bolted and hooked up i now have a starting problem also no fuel pump.
i go through all of the TBI to TPI posts and i can't a conclusive answer.
some say i have to change the under dash harness and some say i don't !but the posts that say you don't aren't saying what i have to do to make my shiznit to work.
do i need to change my under dash harness or not?
i have a 89 5.7 TPI in my 91 TBI Firebird
Please for the love of Pete(who ever that is)i don't want to spend the summer wrenching on my ride while my freinds are riding around in theres!!!!!

I am having the same damn problem it is not getting any spark, no fuel pump sound and no lights anywhere, but as soon as the battery is hooked up the starter starts clicking..... did you figure your problem out?
Are you 100% sure that you didn't confuse the "VATS" module. If your anti-theft system got pissed off because it isn't seeing what it want's to it will shut off fuel, spark, and injector pulse. Therefore, no start. Go back and make triple sure that your signal "key" matches what the ECM and VATS module want to see. Happy hunting.

I may know what the problem is...but not how to fix it. I'm in the middle of swapping out my 89 tbi setup for an 88 TPI setup. When we layed the 2 wiring harnesses side by side, we noticed that the TPI harness has a fuel pump relay and fuel pump boss primer plug (that's what it's called in the haynes manual), and the TBI setup didnt. This means that the plug on the TPI harness has nowhere to plug into. I'm thinking that maybe the plug is something that can be bypassed, or i'm going to have to splice the wires off that plug into the wires leading to the fuel pump. What I dont get though is...how did the TBI pump turn on if it didn't have a fuel pump relay?? It had to have some other method. If anyone knows anything, help us out...thanks.
