Hey guys, I just got the air flow reasearch catalog, and there is an insanely powerful street combo for a 350 in the catalog.
Air Flow Research 180cc Heads
9 to 1 Comp. Ratio
1 5/8 Headers
600 cfm Holley
110E Hydraulic Cam (not sure who makes this)
Intake : .460 lift / 218 @ .050
Exhaust: .470 lift / 223 @ .050
110 lobe center
800 rpm idle and
16 lbs vacuum
Peak hp : 420 @ roughly 6000 rpm (hard to tell from chart)
Peak torque: 435 @ roughly 4000 rpm
The dyno chart starts at 2500 rpm, and it has a pretty flat torque curve. Starts at like 360 ft lbs at 2500 rpm, and ends at 325 at 6000 rpm, with a peak of 435 at 4000.
This cam isn't too big, the carb is small, comp ratio is low, and this thing puts out that much power?
Would this be too much power for a daily driver? My priorities are a strong bottom end, and driveability, with an ocassional trip to the dragstrip last in importance.
Also, how much vacuum is needed to run power brakes? I think 16 lbs is enough, but I'm not too sure.
Any comments, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

that sounds like very low compresion and thats a small carb for that much hp, but the dyno numbers are very cool how much is it

I was doing some research on the very same thing a while back, and it seems to be pretty streetable. The compression ratio is about right, the cam isn't to lumpy, and the heads are very efficient, so you shouldn't need a carb much bigger than the 650 CFM. Also, with that kind of vacuum you will still maintain good fuel economy

I haven't added everything up so far to see how much it comes out to, but the heads are pretty expensive. They are about $1250 I think, don't remember exactly right now.
It sounds like a good street motor to me, but I don't want to overlook something and regret it later, so I'm trying to ask around for some opinions. By the way, does anyone have a setup similar to this? What kind of mileage would this motor get with 3.42 gears? I realize this is a very rough figure, but I am curious.

The compression ratio is perfect for a street car. You could use a quadrajet from an L69 motor and probably get better mpg. But that carb is fine. That combo is perfectly balanced if you ask me.
