De-stroking

I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DESTROKE A 400 TO A 377
OR STROKE A 350 TO A 383 AND A 305 TO A 334
BUT WHAT ABOUT BESTROKING A 350?

I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST ENGINE(PREFERIBLY A 350) TO MAKE IT WIND OUT PAST 6 OR 7 GRAND
AND HOLD TOGETHER TO ABOUT 10K?

Contrary to popular belief, destroking an engine does not make it more adept at revving to high RPM's. A properly prepped 350, 383, or 400 will rev as high as any destroked engine given the right internal parts to sustain those RPM's. The reason short stroke engines seem "rev-happy" is because they need to rev that high to make any useable power, while down low they are generally out-classed by larger cubic inch engines. A common misconception is that the 302 in the first gen Z28's was a miracle of an engine. Yes, it was a nice powerful small block V8 with good potential. However, the reason for its construction was due to limitations placed on the engine displacement for racing. Why do you think that the 302 was ditched in favor of a 350 in years following? When the displacement limit was raised, the 302 was no longer the logical choice.

It's a simple rule that many knowledgeable people here will tell you: When building an engine, ALWAYS go with the largest displacement engine you can build. Sacrificing cubic inches to reduce the stroke is a waste of a perfectly good engine.

Well IF you buy the right parts.. it will rev past 6k

Hell LOOK @ Nascar engines.. they arent "destroked" ... and they REV...

Just takes money...

Destroking a 350 is plain stupid...

Actually Rick, i think Nascar engines are 'destroked'. But again, this is because of cubic inch limits. 358ci max, so a 400 and then some bore is used w/ a short crank to make 358.

But brad is right on. There is no reason to run a smaller engine unless you are trying to meet some class requirement.

A nice 350 w/ good heads and cam will easily rev to 7k and beyond. I've been shotgun in traxion's car as it effortlessly pinned the tach between shifts and it's just a stock shortblock L98.
