lowest compression pistons?

Hi again,

I am just wondering, what is teh lowest compression piston you have seen?

What is done to a piston to make it lower compression?

I know you can make a cup in it but what more can you do?

Thanks :hail: :hail: :hail:

Cylinder compression has a lot of other factors then just the piston. To lower compression, piston companies may dish the piston and put valve reliefs in it, but compression has a lot to do with combustion chamber size of the heads, deck height, gasket thickness, bore and stroke size.

oh

I am still looking for some nice heads, I am leaning to edlebrock victor 23 degree heads with a 71cc chamber and 247cc intake port.

What do you think?

thanks :hail: :hail: :hail:

I think those heads belong on a race car and not a street car of any sort. Ports are WAY too big to be useful. If you are going to go off the deep end and use full race heads, dont use 23 degree heads, use something else like 14-18, easier to make more power with those.

Well my little bro built a 427 once, with 454 pistons, because he thought they were for a 427 and slapped it together without paying much attention until it was too late, so he finished it anyway... that gave it about .060" too much deck clearance... we figured it had about 7:1. It ran OK though, kind of weaker than it should have been, but at least it never pinged no matter what kind of gas he put in it.

WOW

7:1, that is very low. I'll try to do some reach about larger pistons in a small block.

Thanks:hail: :hail: :hail:
