LT1 Wiring into L98
LT1 Wiring into L98
Hey Fellaz, I've got an 97 LT1 in my garage waiting to be installed into my 87 L98 T/A. The only concern is the wiring. I just pick up a stand alone harness from Howell-EFI and a reprogrammed 95 computer. Now the fun begins. What wires do I need to tap into to get power to the new computer and to all of my gages? My car has a digital dash with power everything. Also can I use my 3rd gen motor mounts on the LT1. Any info would be a great help.....................Thanks

You can use thirdgen engine mounts as long as you don't use A/C. For the wiring, your guages will still hook straight up to the sensors. You will have to tap into the VSS signal for your speedo to work. You fuel guages won't be affected. Your oil guage hooks straight up to the sensor. You temp guage hooks straight up to the sensor. Your tach will hook up to a white wire coming off the ignition module *I think* or it'll just come off the coil, into the PCM, and the PCM will have an output for it. As far as wiring the computer...you will need to find the power wire for your fuel pump, and wire that to the PCM. Hooking up the PCM electrically is as easy as running the correct wires to the fuse box and hooking it to a switched source (so it has power while cranking). You should be able to use the existing wire from the fuse box that went to the original PCM.
I helped a friend do a little bit of wiring on his LT1 swap and he retained the PCM. I, on the otherhand, used a DFI computer so my swap may have went more smoothly than if I tried to use a PCM.
