Big block power steering
Big block power steering
Hey, I am new to this board but have been viewing the threads for awhile. I am in the process of putting a big block in my 87 Trans AM and was wondering if my power steering pump brackets from my small block will fit the big block. I really don't think they will. How about the March power steering pump brackets, they are pretty expensive but I think I will need a new pump to use the brackets. I've even looked into an S-10 manual box but have my doubts about it turning the tires with so munch weight on them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need BBC brackets for everything.
I use a manual box with no problem. A BBC is only about 100 pounds heavier than a SBC. The hard part is trying to turn at low speeds with wide front tires.

That’s cool so what about the March power steering brackets #mch-20150 in the summit catalogue. If I used those brackets I would probably have to buy a new power steering pump right? I have already purchased a March alternator bracket so the power steering bracket would go well with the rest of the engine. As for the manual box I plan on using the stock width tires and am not going to put skinnys up front for a while or maybe never. So I’m not to sure 100 pounds is about the extra weight I expected plus I made sure to buy lightweight parts if possible anything that could be made in aluminum was except for the block.
