IROC center caps

After spending about 4-5 hours on each wheel sanding and polishing they have come out pretty well. The main weakness now is the center caps. The emblem sticker is coming away from the retainer making them look a little tatty.

My question(s) are;

1) Can the plastic be sanded and polished for a clean look? If so how?
2) Can you glue the emblem onto the retainer? I have done this but not very well and it is curreently on but wonky.

I would prefer not to fork out £30 or so to get some new ones, but reckon it may well be the only option. Has anyone had similar experience and if so how did you resolve? Any suppliers over here you could recommend?

Thanks,
Felix

Hi Felix
Give North Hants Tyres a ring (Fleet, Hampshire). I got my IROC centre "discs" from there. I assume you mean the little discs that go into the centre of the wheels.
Let me know if you want their phone number and I will look it up.

Post a pic if you can.

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Yes I mean the discs, both the metal holders and the IROC graphic that is stuck onto them. Somehow the sticker has lifted from the holder and it is now slightly wonky.... How much did you pay through North Hants?

I'll try and get a pic asap.

Cheers,
Felix

uhh, polishing plastic is funny, it will either gleam like crazy, or it will go dull.

i'd say try a small part of the cap (somewhere hard to see, in case it goes dull) and just poligh the way you do with paint. brasso wadding is a good starting point, then something like Autoglym super resin polish to finish it off.

worth a try.

incidently, this method works superbly on tail lights (use t cut first if they are really bad, and be expecting to have to use about 5 or 6 coats of polish, and work it in well)
