Hard Finding/seeing A Thirdgen
Hey guys I was just cruisin the site and figured i would check out your board, I was wondering how common a thirdgen is over there? here in the US they are a dime a dozen although in the past few years its becoming harder and harder to find one thats decent. also what are the going prices ours a couple years ago had a tough time hitting $3k now there are some going for 4-5K that are mostly stock just in good shape. the verts have always held there value a lil better how common are they?

Where I am they are fairly common considering they are all personal imports. There are the regulars that you see out and about often, but also the occasional new one. There is a lot of crap over here too caused by neglect. A vert comes in at about £6000~$12000. A decent IROC could be £4000-£5000~$8000-$10000. You can buy crap for about £1500-£2500~$3000-$5000...There is a lot of crap out there.

I only saw 1 thirdgen in New York when I was there last year. Every other car was a yellow cab!
I agree with RMK for every good thirdgen there are 20 bad ones over here.

Here in Norway, THey are the most common american sports car , especially when your talking about the eighties. But then again, there is generally alot more older american cars here.
THe thirdgens where never affordable as new here, although the prices was still somewhat reasonable compared to what they have become after 1997 when the authorities made a new tax chart on new cars.
Generally speaking, heavy, big motored and horsepowered cars lost and got alot more expensive, while light small engined cars got cheaper. Like Lotus'es and such sportscars.
THe tax alone to import a 1987 thirdgen is about $12000 dollars, so it keeps the prices up. But then again, alot of thirdgens are cheaper than that, so importing one is not the hot ticket. The price for an 87 was between $11 000 for stock 305 versions and up to $23 000 for a modded one with 383 engine, nice wheels and sofourth.
I paid $13000 for my low mileage -87 which was a bargain compared to the other scruffy ones i saw. Mostly because of it's "almost as new" condition.
The cost to import a 2002 LS1 TA back in 2002, was estimated to a total of $130 000, so by all means, not very affordable anymore.
As to how common they are, it's hard to put a number on it, but you see them now and then, in my area I know of 4-5 or so.

Yes, it's in american dollars. It's all relative to the price of other cars, since any car get alot of tax, just alot more on heavy, big engined ones.
They still managed to sell some new fourthgens here, but I have only seen 6 cylinder ones with almost half the price of an LS1 one.

Over here ( The Netherlands) thirdgen aren't worth much. They go from $ 2000 until $ 10000 for perfect low miles car.
That's because of the road taxes. Cars older than 25 years don't have to pay roadtax anymore. So 1st and 2ndgens are hot over here.
I'm trying to sell mine ( bright blue metallic 1988 all stock convert 305 TBI) for around $7500.

I bought my car for 2800 pounds ( $5300) here in the u.k. 3 years ago and although I’m having to replace parts it’s nothing major and the car looks fantastic! This is also helped by the fact that there are so few in my location in Sheffield. Think this is due to the fact that there are no specific American car garages that can look after the 3rd gen I guess.
Anyway, last Firebird I saw on the road was mine last autumn before I put it away for the winter! So I guess their pretty rare. It’s not uncommon for me to walk out of a petrol station shop to find the Bird with a crowd round it, nice to see people appreciate it

Not with your 2 fat sisters in the backseat
(just kidding)
Here in Belgium it's a bit the same..
the bigger the engine, the more tax and insurrance you pay..
Even for my V6 i pay a lot every year.
Eventhough i'm going to build in a Tpi.
Different from US is also that every car that's older than 4y, must go for a complete check up every year.
Big thing to know: Here in Belgium you're not allowed to change a thing on your car that's not original.
So, when i put in my V8, they musn't see it, or i won't be allowed to still drive my bird.

Dunno m8, they were like that when I bought it, most of the mods I've done are cosmetic (paint, stripes, bodywork etc) and the weatherstripping for the T-Tops.

Russmanu,
Huge door decal you have there too.
We shall find out soon enough. You and Felix should think about getting together and forming some sort of club.

Errrrmmm No, I actually copied out the door decal from dimensions from the Internet, then applied some maths (ie. added 25% allround) then masked up and drew the IROC Decal, cut out the fine lines and then Rattle can sprayed them in. Cut them back, detailed and then lacquered shut.Much better dimensions I think. And (my intention)....TOATALLY ONE OFF

Just wondering if anyone on here owns the white Camaro, possibly Z28, which I saw in Fulwood, Preston (near ASDA) coming towards me Saturday evening (14/05). We acknowledged each other as you would expect.
So there's two 3rd gens in the Preston area
Mark.
