Dual Cats?

whats the difference between having a single cat and dual cats?

right now i have a single cat, but in the next 2-3 months i am getting new haeders and a new exhaust system, and i need to know if dual cats would be better... and if u can get a dual cat system on a single cat car... (I have 92 z28 L98)

and for headers... i was thinking either SLP or hooker.. Long tubes of short tubes? whats hte difference, or would SLP be better...

and for the exhaust system i was thinking Random Technology Powermax system...

And any ideas for high flow cats?? All info is greatly appreciated...

On a dual cat car each head had its own cat so the exhaust flow was less restrictive. You can get headers with a dual cat y pipe. The rest of the exhaust will have to be reworked to line up with the cats. You might need some other stuff, I'm not really sure. But why bother, get a single cat y pipe and a good aftermarket cat. it will cost less, flow as good or slightly less, and will clear subframe connecters.

As for headers selection, I hear the hooker long tubes are the best for the money, but some custom work has to be done to get them in. Where as the SLP's cost alot more, but going easier. But I have never seen used one or the other to tell you from experience.

Dual Cats

Your 1992 Z28 with the L98 should have came with dual cats from the factory, unless that is not the original engine.

interesting.... everything on the car is original... except hte exhaust that is on it now... has flowmasters.

Something is either clogged in the cat, or i dont know what, after about 5 mins of driving it starts to make noises as if it were clogged and there is a serious loss of power... the engine is bone stock with only 60k on it... i htink its time to start woring on it, i first i want headers and new exhaust.. any ideas?

cats

Sometimes the cats will start rattling and they can also come apart on the inside.Get somebody to hook up a computer to your car and they may be able to tell if you have a cat problem or something else.
