POR-20 coating on headers
Hi, I recently installed a set of headers on my 84 Trans AM. These headers have no coating.
I’m thinking of using POR-20 Brilliant Aluminum coating. It says its for headers and can handle up to 1400 degrees.
Has anyone used this kind of coating on headers ? or anything like it.
It cost $16 for half a pint or $24 for a pint. Any idea how much it'll take to coat a set of shorty headers ?
Any ideas, comments, suggestions appreciated
Thanks,
Dan

I've used a spray ceramic hi-temp coating 1200* before and it lasted a month or so and started to flake off. I'm planning on buying some 1500* kind I saw in summit or jegs, can't remember, that should do the trick.

Mark, I think I found what u were talking about..

up to 1500 degrees.. comes in a spray can. The POR-20 stuff comes in tin can and can be bushed on or even sprayed on. By reading about their products, it sounds good. And their reputation for POR-15 is good.

I’m thinking I'll sandblast my headers real quick and put this stuff on. I just want a cheap protective coating for my headers so it wont rust up. Hopefully it'll even help reduce the engine compartment temps.

Hey Dan I used the por-20 that you are talking abouit on my headers and its been 4 months and there still is no rust. Sandblasting is deffinatly recommended along with 2 coats of the por-20. If you brush it, which I recomened, you will only need that half-pint and you will still have plenty left over in the can. The stuff goes forever. All I used were a couple of foam brushes, 1 inch and 2, that you pick up from your local paint store. Good Luck with whatever you choose.
