TH 700 Problems :o(:::

Hello!

I recently put together my Camaro -85 with a new Holley carburated 408" engine and a prepped Th 700 -86.

Because I run a no emissioncontroled car the computersystem is removed from the car.
Iīve swaped the tranny with a friend for the old Rochester carburated 305". Since I havenīt tested the tranny before I donīt know about itīs condition but my friend said it should be good.

Now to the problem, The tranny shifts from 1:st to second gear perfectly but when the third gear should jump in it starts so slip. The same action is accuring with the fourth gear. The only time the tranny shifts rather good is then Iīm very easy at the throttle. I tried to set the kickdown wire whitout any positive results.

1. Does the Th 700 work without a computercontrol? Most people I talked to said it should work without any electrical devices up to 1988 yearmodel.

2. Is the tranny just junk with the slipping in mind?

I hope you guys can help me, itīs eating at me and raceseason is approaching. (

Yours, Tobias Pervik, Sweden

For starters you might want to post this on the tranny board, might get some better answers. Also if your car isn't computer controlled any more, I hope you have taken care of the TC LU problem you'll have with no computer.

Welcome to the wounderful world of the 700-r4. You burnt your 3rd and 4th gear clutches or they were burnt already. This is super common with 700's check the trany board and you'll see what i mean. I just had my tranny rebuilt 15000 miles ago and i lost 3rd and 4th even though i had a shift kit installed, corvete servo, and extra clutches in the 3-4 pack. I'm stumped on why it went but it did.
