Jet-Hot 1300 coating, how hot is our exhaust?

I just got my Jet-Hot coated Hookers

They came with a warning that exhaust temps on some engines could exceed 1300 degrees if the engine is out of tune.

My engine will be out of tune when I put the headers on. I'm getting ready for major mods, LT1 Cam, TPI heads with 3 angle job, etc.

I know my car won't be in tune when I get it running again. I don't want to fry my headers before I tune my engine with fuel and timing. Does anybody know how hot the exhaust gas would get out of my engine if it's out of tune from the mods?

They may be talking about like crazy race engines and not an almost stock engine like mine, I'm not sure. They recommend using an old pair of old headers to tune the engine.

I know some of you have jet-hot coatings, have any of you run your engine with them before you got it tuned after mods like these?

Thanks all.

mine is no longer an l03 but i regularly see above 1300 degrees on my egt.. heck at wot it will get up near 1600 sometimes

im using the same paint on my headers. It works ok for awhile if you make sure you bake it on (i used a propane torch to bake it on there since i didnt have an oven)

it doesnt just flake off if thats what you are worried about it just sorta gets "thin" thats the best way i can describe it

I think you need to watch out for two things that would cause the exshaut temp to run hotter than normal. 1st- timming that is too retarded, the stock base timing is 0 degs or tdc so retarded would be after top dead center(atdc). 2nd- running to lean will also raise temp and melt pistons. Keep your eyes on these thing will help. Also a lot of times people will install headers when they put their new engine in for the first time, if their running a flat tappet cam that has to be broke in then the engine has to maintain a 2000 to 2500 rpm level for 15 to 20 minutes. If the engine is run with to little timming or running lean during the cam break in period this will over heat the headers usually causing them to glow red hot. Hope this helps some.

I got the Jet-Hot ceramic coating. They bake it on at Jet-Hot. I think if I took a propane torch to it, that would probably void the warranty

Yeah I was worried about the lean condition that I will probably have. Will have a lean condition at idle, or at WOT? I'm planning on making an adjustable regulator/buying an external type one/or getting the GM vacuum adjusted deal. I'm not sure which type of regulator I'll get yet.
