cat back for most hp and tq

i have a 377 sbc that produced 488 hp on the dyno with 1 3/4 open headers. i am looking for info. on which cat back system will flow this engine the best. i have no cat on the car. i am not so interested in the sound as much as i am interested in making the hp that is available. i have the slp 1 3/4 headers waiting to go on the engine. i have the flowmaster 3" american thunder system on now. it sounded very good with the old 305, but has a strange sound in the muffler with the new engine. thank you

Well, on a dyno using a 406 the Hooker Cat-Back outflowed several cat-backs, including the flowmaster. I'm very happy with mine. Though if emissions aren't a concern I would look into duals with an X or H pipe and using maybe some Flowmaster single chamber mufflers.

Oh, you said you weren't interested in sound, but I have a sound clip in my signature.

A couple of months ago I would have said Flowmaster, But after switching to a hooker aerochamber, I'd say hooker is the only way to go. I definately gained power all the way across the board after putting this thing on.

The best cat-back would be a 3inch piping with a straight through designed muffler especially with the horses your makin. Flowmaster is not the way to go because of it's baffled designed. A transverse designed cat-back muffler as i've been told is not very efficent either. If you want the most torque and horspower go with what i said.

Even with one chamber it's still not straight through because it's got all those wacky baffles in there. Straight through is the way to go! Later dude.
