Headman Headers Clearance Issue's?
Im getting a set of Headman Headers part number: Hed-68470 from summit for my 86 Iroc....i was wondering if anyone has had any problems installin these headers? Did the spark plug wires fit right, or did you have to get new ones and what kind? What about brackets and such? Does the Headman Y-pipe fit correctly or will i need to modify it to fit? Thanks

You'll need plug wires with 90 degree angle boots, straight ones won't fit. I found out the hard way! Another 50 bucks I didn't plan on spending last week, oh well. Other than that, they cleared everything, it was just a pain installing.
Driver side: didn't have to move steering shaft, but we did unbolt he bracket and move the fuel lines out of the way. Also took the oil filter off. Slid the pipe in from underneath with the motor mounts unbolted and the motor jacked up about 6 inches.
Pass side: Took off starter, dust sheild, and dipstick and slid up from underneath. Motor was raised for this too.
The y-pipe fit great. You'll be VERY happy with the sound/power gains! I've only had them for 6 days and I couldn't be happier.

I agree HrdRock, they are a good header for the money. Some people say they are good only for stock or mild engine combos, but I was running 12.50's with the 350 had in my before I put my 383 in my car, and I was running that same set-up with a 3" pipe going into a single 3" Dynomax Race muffler, it sounded very good, but it was a little loud. Oh, and BTW, You WILL need round-port header gaskets
!! --so when you order them, you can go ahead and order your copper gaskets.

To install mine, on my completely non-emissions/computer controlled motor, I had to remove the steering shaft and the drivers side wiggled right in. For the passenger side I had to remove the starter and it dropped in. Good headers but the y-pipe is on the dinky side. I had to very slightly grind off the 3" y-pipe to cat connector so it would slip over the pipe properly.
I'm even actually still using the gaskets that came with the headers. I been expecting them to leak for months but nothing yet. Overall they are a good header but I don't really like the y-pipe, its too small.
