Random Tech cats keep breaking... Catco or Dynomax?
Hi,
My first random cat lasted about a year then the inside broke up in pieces. My second seems to be on its way out... I can hear stuff rattling when I tap it. Its only been about six months since I had this one put on. I believe my car is running fine... I aced the emmisions test here in Mass which is very tough. My scanner also tells me everythings OK. I'm not bouncing off of speadbumps or anything. I think it has to be a quality control problem at Random Technologies.
How are the catco or Dynomax cats? Which one is better? thanks guys

I had the same deal with them and they replaced one of my cats, they do have a 24,000 mi warranty provided the problem is not the fault of engine tune or hitting them (damn those speed brakers). Coming apart is definitely a manufacturers defect. As much as they cost Random Tech can just keep replacing mine as long as they self destruct. Excluding the listed problems a cat should just about last forever.

I'd say before you go and shell out the money for a new cat, go to the local parts store and buy a pipe to go through the cat. After pushing the pipe through, run it through emissions. If you pass, great! You just saved yourself some cash and get a little more flow through the exhaust.
That's just my suggestion, good luck!

I have had a Catco for about a year now and I have had no problems with it, and unfortunately I have banged it pretty good a few times. The outer casing has definately seen some hard time on the bottom! lol Anyway, it has not even began to start breaking up. They seem to be pretty tough cats.
As far as how they compare to Dynomax, I don't know. The thing I liked about the Catco is that I can get it from Summit racing to directly bolt onto my car for $116 I think. Not just that, but I can get it within a day, which is better than waiting a few days or having to take one to have another pipe added on to it so that it will bolt up to my system. Check out Summit's website as it has all the details for them.
