Is 1 5/8 inch headers too big for a slightly modded LG4?

I have a mostly stock LG4 with an Edelbrock 600cfm carb and an Edelbrock 3701 Performer intake manifold. The intake and carb are the only mods I have done so far. I wanted to ask if the 1 5/8 inch full-length headers are too big for this motor. I have a set of Hedmans that go into a 3 inch collector. Would I be better off with a pair that are a little thinner?

Matt

1 5/8" is usually the smallest you can go, they are definately not too much for your engine and i would recommend them, now 1 3/4" would be too much, but not 1 5/8

1 5/8" are the smallest you want to go. You could go with 1 1/2", but they're too small, and you don't save that much money. Now 2" would be way too big...

1 5/8

if you plan on more mods or an engine swap go with the 5/8, but if thats it, get the tork-step hedders from heddmen. they are 1/2 stepped to 5/8, in an effort to increase the scavenging effect. basically an antireversion headder. the step actually keeps gas from reentering the chamber.

I'm planning on replacing the motor sometime within the next 2 years. Thanks for the help. Can't wait to get these headers in this weekend.
