Silly SLP question...

I just threw a used exhaust system consisting of SLP 1 3/4 headers and a Borla exhaust system on my ride.

These headers have AIR provisions, but my car is not equipped with it. What can I use to plug the AIR tubes? I just used a bolt on my Edelbrocks, but it doesn't look like there's a thread for a bolt on the end of these suckers. What did you guys use?

By the way, this setup absolutely ROCKS.

Later.

How does it sound? I am definetly getting SLP 1-3/4 and how was the installation... lots of people ahve trouble with it...

The cheapest i can get here on Long Island, NY is about $700 to install the headers and the exhaust system.... That is just a little too much

What did u use to raise the car? Did u need any welding done?

Thanks for all ur feedback...

Well, after spending (wasting) several hours attempting to install the Edelbrock headers in the driveway, I just paid the local shadetree mechanic cash to do the SLP's for me. It took me a couple hours a day for over a week to install just the headers. Well, then re-do a brake line I snapped in frustration over the old manifold bolts. It took him 4 hours to do the entire install, headers to muffler to tips, but I paved alot of the way with the initial header install, such as bending (see: breaking) brake lines out of the way, pulling almost 20 year old bolts out of the heads, etc.

Actually, the only real difficulty is getting reallllyyy old bolts out. Oh, and lying on your back with your car inches from your face, I find it quite unnerving, so I am a bit of a safety-first dork. I even wore ski-goggles to protect my eyes from falling dirt/rust/debris, heheheh.

But, go for it yourself. Take your time, hell, take an hour a day for an entire week if you have to. If you're feeling frustrated, stop and come back later. Guzzling beer doesn't help any, although the two seem to go together.

He said there was no problems whatsoever, not even any steering column interference. However, I have to re-bend the brake lines as the SLP header setup is an inch or two "wider" than the Edelbrocks on each side. My car now has no emissions whatsoever, so there's a decent amount of room to screw around in.

Now, installing those same headers on the '88 GTA, now *THAT* would be a friggin' MISSION.

Man, the GTA is a total P.O.S.

Have fun.

do it yourself jack the car up by the front crossmember, put jack stands in the proper spot, you know the ones behind the front wheels. let the jack down and stick a couple 2x4s or a 4x4 under it and jack it all the way up again, raise the jack stands up to the highest level and your car is now plenty high to do the install. if you need to jack up the engine just undo the mounts and jack it up with a piece of wood across the oil pan. all this worked for me. remember to do reverse order when letting the car down or you will just lower the car with the wood and then have to raise it again

Don't get SLP 1 3/4" headers. A LOT of people on here have major clearance problems with them. I moved my steering column as far as it would go and the header still doesn't clear it completely. For what they cost, the headers should fit and the simple fact is that the drivers's side does not fit. There were several posts on this topic a couple months ago. If I were doing it again, I'd go with hooker and get them coated.

I have heard of this problem alot... And for the most part, whoever had this problem tried to intall them on their own...

Worst comes to worst, i will let a shop handle the installation...

I really like hte SLP's and i believe they are the best flowing out there....
