A bunch of guys are using them. Minor fit-up problems, typical of exhaust systems.

They will "fit" your '84, but won't fit any of your factory exhaust system unless modified. Most go with a 3" cat & cat-back to go with them, and just chuck all of the factory exhaust system. A single TPI direct-fit cat and similiar cat-back work nicely with them.

Forget the picture linked on the Summit site. They've got the wrong part photographed. This thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=112322 has a link to the correct photo.

hey thanks alot for your help. i know the picture at summit is wrong. what problems did you run into when installing them. yes, i do plan on redoing the entire exhaust system. did you have to grind anything down or did they slip right in. did you have to jack the motor up at all. did you notice any real noticable power gain. i also plan on getting the ceramic coated ones too. please let me know ALL the problems you had when installing them(hopefully make my life alittle bit easier when i install mine). thanks alot.

I installed them when I did the majority of the mods in my sig, and I had the engine out when I did them, so I can't answer a lot of your questions. I put the shorties on the engine before putting it back in, then the y-pipe after it was set.

The major issues I came across were the small opening at the collector ball flange, and a slight mis-match (~1/4") when trying to install the y-pipe to the collectors. What I did was a trial fit of the y-pipe, then opened up the collector ball opening centered where the down-pipes mated. As for the mis-match between sides, I'm not sure if the heads contributed to that or not, but I just loosened everything up, got them to match, then tightened everything down.

I also had to bend a brake line out of the way slightly, but I have an original V6 car, and I've heard that's pretty standard, anyway. Other than that, no interferences.

Oh, the A.I.R. check valve fitting on the driver's side faces to the back (like TPI cars), and the carb system has it facing to the front, so you'll have to work around that somehow (I still haven't, since I passed emissions the day I took it apart for the mods, and haven't bothered hooking it up yet).
