Make headers SMOG legal?

Is it possible to make non-SMOG legal headers into SMOG legal ones? I am getting a great deal on some custom headers but they are not SMOG headers. What would need to be done to make them SMOG ok?

And O2 sensor.

Caution advised. Unless you're doing all the work yourself, by the time you get the A.I.R. tubes & O2 bung welded on, and get a y-pipe that routes the exhaust to the factory cat location, you very well may have spent as much or more than you would have just getting certified smog-legal headers from Edelbrock, Hooker, Hedman, or SLP.

Just curious, what exactly do you mean by "custom"?

hey you are one of the "lucky" few of us in Cali. Even if you put the AIR tube, o2 sensor and the heat riser (I think that is what it is called) it needs a CARB E.O. # to let the guys who do the smog check know they are legit. Don't think you can work around that unless you get lucky and they don't check for an E.O. #. But I've had them run the E.O. # on me. Two years ago they failed me because of my headers even though the E.O. # was stamped on the headers. But the guy couldn't find the # in his book so he wouldn't pass me. Now hopefully they aren't all that strict but you never know. Short answer to your question would be no you can't legally make you headers smog legal. You could take the same theory I do. Just put the smog legal stuff on their long enough to get through your test then rip it all out. I just did that a week ago.

Hope that helps

Yea I think I have a place that will test my car without checking the numbers. If not I will just switch from the headers back to the manifolds. These headers are custom headers off a drag 3rd gen. They were made to specifications and carry no name brand which is why they are custom. Not a bad deal for $250.
