Side running exhaust ???
Ok guys i have a couple of questions for you.
1) i want to put in a new exhaust system in my '84 camaro and i was thinking of shootin it out the side(i think that looks NICE). just wondering if there is any major problems i should know about before i get my heart set on this, and also if anyone knows a good site to walk me through it (though ill bet you guys have a tech article on it!!)
2)im runnin a little 2.8 right now but i dont have the money to spend to drop in a 350 like i want to, but i do have some extra cash to work on the exhaust right now... when i do get the money for that engine what will i have to do to make sure that the exhaust system i set up now will be able to set up to the new one ?
thanks for all the help ... you freakin genious people !

If you have gfx, I would worry about clearing them. Also, depending on your local emission laws, most places it's illegal not to have the exhaust exiting past the rear tires.

a guy that used to live on my street did this... BUT
heres the thing... you'll need to 90-92 GFX's... cause they hang lower... looks better.. anyways.. to do it properly and still look cool and have some reasonable ground clearance.. you'll have cut a rectangualr or oval whole in the GFX's...
just like on Roush Mustangs. they use a special tip that helps prevent the paint from being heat blasted..
its looks awesome when done..

if you arent worried about clearence... this set up is good.. but.. if you are like me and have low pro tires and sportline springs.. its not cool...
but if you are still worried about clearance.. you can help it out by using Oval tubing (i saw a thing for it by Spintech in CHP mag) what also might help is one of their mufflers.. i know it is rectangular shaped and accepts oval pipes... or you can use a bullet muffler from Dyno-max. theres alot of options out there.. but my moto is " if you;re gonna do it... do it right... if you're gonna do it right.. do it right the 1st time"
sucks when you have to go back and re-do thing.. research what you wanna do.. anything is possible.. just dont rush anything and im sure it will kick ***.

those pics look real good but im really concerned about that clearance ... i dont know how many of you guys live in new york but the roads out here are terrible ... if you were to hit a pothole at anything more than 3 MPH you'd probably lose that thing. i really wanted it cause it does look good, but i have no faith in the ground clearance.

I've got the same exhaust set-up as easystreet, but not nearly as pretty-race car, anyway clearance sucks. When I have a full tank of fuel and a passenger the ants on the road have to duck. I'm surprised my muffler has'nt got a hole worn through yet, it's nice and shiny in that spot. When I swap in the new tranny I think I'll either buy the 3/4 length headers or maybe opt for the hookers so I have more options on exhaust routeing. The full tube Heddmans just don't cut it. A fella here in town said he runs 3.5" single on all the 3rd gens cause there's just not a practical way to run duals inexpensively.

easy true duals.......
the easiest way i have thought of seems to be with either hooker lt, or heddman lt, and the s bend from heddman angles it toward the driveshaft. you may have to angle it more, but use a bullet muffler and the oval tubing from spintech to make a 90 out to the side. with heddmans it will cost about 350 bucks.
